Energy Innovation Act Website

CCL’s preferred climate proposal was introduced in Congress in 2021 as the Energy Innovation & Carbon Dividend Art, H.R. 2307. This federal legislation implements a gradually rising price on carbon emissions from fossil fuels. All resulting revenue is distributed in equal shares to each household as a carbon dividend. It is currently co-sponsored by many Representatives. Visit energyinnovationact.org to learn how H.R. 2307 is effective, helps people, helps the economy, is bi-partisan, and is revenue neutral.

Lobby Days

Each year, CCL encourages members to attend a congressional lobby days conference in Washington D.C. in June & November. Due to the pandemic, this year’s conference will be online. See our December 3-4, 2022 conference — save the date. See a more typical annual 2019 CCL Lobby Days Conference here.

Letters to the Editor

Every year, CCL volunteers across the country write countless letters to the editors of newspapers and other publications to call attention to climate change and what can be done about it. For those with no prior experience, CCL provides guidance on how to compose and submit them.

CCL Examples

Op-eds and Editorials

Wisconsin CCL members have published op-eds about climate change in various local and national newspapers and online news sites. This is a great way to use storytelling and a personal touch to draw the attention of both the public and elected officials to climate-related problems and potential solutions.

Our members also encourage newpapers to publish editorials in support of action against climate change, like this one in the Wisconsin State Journal:

CCL provides online training, resources, and support for reaching out to our local news media.

Stories and Interviews

CCL members and their efforts to prevent climate change have been profiled by news outlets across Wisconsin. Some examples:

CCL members also have appeared as guests on radio and TV public-affairs programs.

Talk about it!

One of the best things you can do to help with the fight against climate change is to talk about it. Talk about it to your family, friends, neighbors, coworkers. The best way to build political will is to increase public awareness and understanding of the problem. Check out Katherine Hayhoe’s Ted Talk explaining the importance of this.

Information Tabling

Information Tabling at community events including Canoecopia, Midwest Energy Fair, Garden Expo, and Farmers Markets. We promote a respectful listening approach in our climate conversations with everyday people. We invite constituents to help us by sharing their climate concerns/suggestions with their members of Congress.

Tabling Training

Climate Presentations

Many of our members deliver climate presentations at local speaking venues, including high schools, service organization luncheons, church meetings, and at household gatherings. For example, Bob Lindmeier, Chief Meteorologist at WKOW-TV in Madison has recently given dozens of presentations (but fewer since the pandemic started) to audiences large and small.
